The Answer Is In Your Routine

by Joy Foster

A common question arises when we start up our business in the fall season. As we return to our offices after sending our children back to school we wonder "How do I get back into the work flow again?"

Joy FosterWe are all looking for the magic answers in what we do daily, ways to keep afloat in our business what I say to myself and other entrepreneurs is "Keep moving forward! Like Disney's' little fish Nemo………keep on swimming!"

Here is the magic formula that I use. I look at my agenda every day and try to keep my eyes on what I need to accomplish on that day because if you don't WATCH OUT a sudden storm will hit you.

In my business I generate income at the beginning of the year through June then it's all quiet through the summer months then it gets nuts in August through September. But don't kid yourself while enjoying the summer with our son and his friends, I am working sending out proposals, connecting with other business, creating alliances and keeping my fingers on the button. Swimming & staying afloat.

Being organized is an important part of this process and believe me it helps you stay away from the Tylenol or Wolf Blass Merlot which I know you can all relate too. Speaking with a successful family member of mine he said to repeat the steps listed below every day and not to deviate. I know what you are all saying "WE KNOW, so you know that by returning to the basics, implementing the routine EVERY DAY you will see what results. It's no different than telling our children to clean their room, put away their toys and especially DO THEIR HOME WORK - you are developing a positive habit.

So read, apply and make it happen.

  1. Make your favorite cup of java and go to your office.
  2. Turn on a CD that motivates your mind or if silence is your preference go with that.
  3. Grab a pad of paper that you will use daily and make a list of what you need to accomplish in that day.
  4. Refer to it through out the day and cross of what you have completed.
  5. Take time for breaks and lunch. Remember to eat as a machine cannot run without fuel.
  6. Then return to your office, check your list and make the next thing happen.

Note: Now you might not complete all the tasks on the list so continue them the next day. NO EXCUSES!

It's as simple as that "Keep on swimming" after all who can argue with Walt Disney one of the greatest visionaries of all time.
